Scale Coefficients (FIR menu)

The Scale Coefficients dialog lets you automatically scale the coefficients of the Inphase, Quadrature, or Complex filter. Scaling is useful primarily to adjust the overall gain of the frequency response, or to scale coefficients to fit into a fixed-point representation. Scaling requires that you specify both a scale parameter type and a desired scaling value.

First, select a scale parameter type in the " Scale Using" group, and then specify a target value in the Scale to Value box. The scale parameters are:

  • Gain at DC (coefficient sum). The scaling is based on the gain at zero Hz.
  • Gain at ___. The scaling is based on the gain at the specified frequency. (This is the same as Gain at DC selection when the frequency specified is zero.)
  • Maximum coefficient magnitude. The scaling is based on the coefficient with the largest absolute value.
  • Sum of coefficient magnitudes. The scaling is based on the total of the absolute values of all coefficients.
  • Sum of coefficient squares. The scaling is based on the total of the squares of all coefficients.
  • Multiply coefficients by. The coefficients are just multiplied by Value. Therefore, the overall filer gain is changed by Value.

Next, set the desired value. The desired Value is in units of dB if the " dB" box is checked (the default) otherwise it is linear.
